National University Receives Accreditation Candidacy Status
In August, National University of Health Sciences crossed a major milestone in the accreditation process for its acupuncture and Oriental medicine masters degree programs, each of which accepted its first students in the fall of 2006.
Previously, the University received full accreditation to offer both the MAc and MSOM programs from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. This additional candidacy milestone in the accreditation process shows that the university is on track in offering degree programs and curriculum designed to meet the accrediting agency's standards.
"We are pleased to receive this candidacy status designation from the ACAOM and pledge to uphold our reputation for high standards of excellence in education for our acupuncture and Oriental medicine students," said National University President Dr. James F. Winterstein.
In addition to the MAc and MOM degrees, the university also offers advanced degrees in chiropractic medicine, naturopathic medicine, diagnostic imaging, advanced clinical practice, as well as undergraduate and certificate programs in such fields as biomedical sciences, massage therapy and chiropractic assistance.
"We've worked hard to establish a solid and traditional Oriental medicine curriculum, with a special emphasis on the training and skills our students will need if they plan to work side-by-side with other health care professions," commented Dr. Yihyun Kwon, assistant dean in charge of both the acupuncture and Oriental medicine programs. "We've also attracted a very knowledgeable and dynamic AOM faculty in order to give our students exposure to a broad range of Oriental medical knowledge, and solid role models for success in clinical practice."
